Brendan Patel is hoping tennis players rally together to clean up the Sooke Community Association tennis courts at Art Morris Park.
Patel is a coach at Brentwood College School and teaches community tennis in Sooke to school-age children. He is putting work parties together to clean up blackberry bushes, reline the courts and do a general clean up at the tennis courts.
“I’m reaching out to tennis players,” said Patel, who lives in Sooke.
“Tennis players are travelling to Langford and Cedar Hill in Saanich to play, when we have two good tennis courts here.”
Patel said the community association has done its best to keep the blackberries down and other minor work, but it’s now completing the artificial turf field at Fred Milne Park and doesn’t have volunteers or money available.
“We try to keep it up,” said Karl Linell, president of the Sooke Community Association, noting Patel pays no rent for the courts with the idea that he and his parent group maintain the facility.
Patel is offering to supply the paint for relining and has other equipment, like nets and sun shields, for the courts.
