Pacific FC’s former playmaker Marco Bustos is headed to Sweden next season, where he’ll play in the country’s top tier with IFK Varnamo.
Bustos’ future had been subject to speculation after the PFC announced he was leaving the club on Jan. 4. Bustos had been on trial with Toronto FC but a move didn’t materialize.
In a statement posted to Twitter announcing his exit, Bustos thanked PFC, fans and his teammates for the past three years.
“In the end, not only did we make history by winning the club’s first-ever championship, but I evolved on a personal level as well.”
Bustos follows former teammate Alejandro Diaz out to Scandinavia, while former club captain Jamar Dixon played in Sweden and Finland early in his career.
IFK Varnamo is playing in Sweden’s top tier for the first time in the club’s history, after getting promoted last year from Sweden’s second division.
