A blocked punt and a fumble recovery was when the momentum changed for the Westshore Rebels during a playoff game Saturday (Oct. 21) against the Langley Rams, said Rebels head coach Dexter Janke.
The Rebels defeated the Rams 40-14 at Starlight Stadiums and put their home-field advantage to good use despite some tense moments.
The Rebels went into the locker room at the end of the first half 23-7, and despite having such a commanding lead, they had some struggles on offence.
“The game was a little closer than I would have liked,” said Roger Wade, general manager of the Rebels.
Despite the struggles in the game, Wade was proud of his team and coaches’ work this year.
The Rebels will now play the Okanagan Suns, the team Janke once played for.
The team is not letting the win slow them down and Janke knows the next game is what has them focused.
“It’s validated their hard work, but at the same time, they’re very aware that the main goal is not accomplished yet,” said Janke.
The coaches are aware of the effort their players have delivered this season, but the goal of winning it all is what is essential.
“We will continue to work for the goal and communicate what we need to improve,” Janke said.
