September 11, 1953 - June 18, 2019
It is with heavy hearts that we celebrate what would have been the 66th birthday of Norman David Stobbart, who passed away from a rare lung disease on June 18, 2019. Norm was born in Nanaimo and lived most of his adult life in Victoria, with a few years in the early 80s spent in the forests of Interior BC, and the last 6 years of his life spent near his grandkids in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan. He was loved and will be missed by his wife Julie (McKinsey); daughters Alison (Dayne Schultz) and Leslie (Dan Gilbert); his grandchildren Claire, Bergen, Jane, and Graham; his three younger sisters, Christine Holte, Shelly Thompson, and Pam Luco; and a lifetime of wonderful friends.
Norm was a big guy with a big heart. He always ALWAYS had a joke or a funny story to share. He loved his family, boats, the Gulf Islands, maps and nautical charts, sandwiches, ice cream, Jeopardy!, action movies, military history, sunny days, long-haul trips through the prairies, and seas that were calm like glass. In addition to serving one term as the Mayor of Roche Harbour, Washington, Norm was also a founding member of the Habitat Buoy Yacht Club and held a variety of positions over the years, including Commodore, Vice-Commodore, Secretary, Treasurer, and Member-at-Large.
Next time you find yourself in the vicinity of a pub, order a basket of extra crispy fries and raise a glass for our Stormin' Norman, who can now Stand Easy. Gone far too soon; he was loved, and he is missed.
