Drivers are being advised to watch for shifting lanes and temporary lane markers on the Malahat beginning today (Wednesday, April 4).
The temporary alignments between McCurdy Road and south of Aspen Road on Highway 1 will be in place 24/7 until mid May, as crews lower the existing highway grade near Aspen Road, and replace a culvert under the highway south of McCurdy Road.
Drivers should expect delays of up to 20 minutes and intermittent stoppages in order for blasting to take place. Stoppages will occur from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and during the day outside of key commuter times from Monday through Thursday.

Drivers are also asked to obey the construction speed zone of 60 kilometres and hour at all times, and should watch for construction workers, traffic controllers, signs and changing traffic patterns.
The upgrades are part of the Highway 1 Malahat Village Safety Improvement project. Improvements include expanding five kilometres of highway to four lanes with wider shoulders, installing three kilometres of median barrier and improving over head lighting at intersections. Work began in spring 2017 and will run through summer 2018.
