Search and rescue crews have safely located a man that went missing in Sooke Potholes Sunday afternoon.
Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue senior manager Vicki Webber said they received a call around 3:15 p.m. of a 19-year-old who hadn’t returned after a group of seven split up while hiking in the area of Empress Mountain. Unconfirmed reports on social media claim the man is Peter Koltronis.
The group split into two with one heading to the summit. The other group started leaving, but doubled back, with Koltronis going ahead to let the group heading up to summit know they were coming back. The man took a wrong turn and became lost.
Webber says he was not dressed for the weather and didn’t have anything on him, as he had left his pack with the other group. The 19-year-old was located with a few cuts and bruises. Webber says he was tired, cold and wet, but in good condition.
