Two men police described as “suspicious” and possibly carrying a firearm were found to pose no risk to the public following searches in Saanich and Victoria Thursday (June 30) night.
Around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Saanich police said a large police presence was searching the Mount Tolmie area for two “suspicious males” described by a witness as wearing “army-type outfits” and possibly carrying a firearm.
Police, including the RCMP emergency response team and helicopter were involved in the search in Saanich. Around an hour into the search, police said there was no reason to believe the individuals were associated with the June 28 Bank of Montreal robbery, which occurred near by.
Around 9 p.m., VicPD said they were searching downtown for a pair of men with the same description, and that they may be related to the call in Saanich.
By 10 p.m., both VicPD and Saanich police said they had spoken to the men and determined there was no criminality or risk to the public involved. Police also confirmed the individuals were the same in both incidents.
Police thank the public for continuing to report anything suspicious in their communities, and for aiding in Thursday’s searches.
