Fire closes portion of park, trails in East Sooke

The fire was reported at 6:53 a.m. Monday

A fire near O’Brien Point in East Sooke Park on Monday morning has closed the park and several trails.

According to a public service announcement from the Capital Regional District, Coast Trail from Cabin Point to Copper Mine, and the parkheights Trail from the interior trail junction to Coast Trail have been closed until further notice.

The fire was reported at 6:53 a.m. Monday, with firefighters from the East Sooke and Metchosin volunteer fire departments responding, said a spokesperson for the East Sooke Volunteer Fire Department.

The size of the fire has not been determined, and Coastal Fire and Capital Regional District Parks rangers are on standby.
