Crack sealing underway on Langford roadways

Public reminded roads can become slippery due to excess sand

Drivers are reminded the City of Langford has started its annual crack sealing program. This year’s focus areas are north of the Trans-Canada Highway and south of Sooke Road.

Crews will seal the cracks using an oil-based product, to be covered with a layer of sand. The sealant/sand combination is packed into the cracks within 24 to 48 hours. According to the City, this process is more cost-effective than full replacement, extends the life of asphalt and delays its breakdown.

The City reminds the public, especially cyclists and motorcyclists, that the loose sand can be slippery. Road users are asked to play close attention to posted warning signs and to drive appropriately for the conditions.
