Cougar sighting in Happy Valley area

West Shore RCMP say a cougar was sighted in the Happy Valley area of Langford on Friday at 1:30 p.m., near Lomalina Drive and Happy Valley Road.

West Shore RCMP say a cougar was sighted in the Happy Valley area of Langford on Friday at 1:30 p.m., near Lomalina Drive and Happy Valley Road.

West Shore RCMP searched the area for the animal, but came up empty. The area is near the Galloping Goose trail and not far from more rural Metchosin. The provincial conservation office has been notified. The sighting has not been verified.

Conservation officials have previously told the Gazette that the majority of cougar sightings on the West Shore are never confirmed. Dogs and other smaller animals are often mistaken for cougars.
