The Capital Regional District is working to replace and align aging water mains on Allandale Road, just off Wishart Road in Colwood.
Crews are removing seven fir trees and two arbutus trees on the road, but will replant two new trees for each one removed. The CRD will also deliver notices, speak with homeowners about the work and ensure that stumps are removed and the boulevard area is restored.
Aborists confirmed that excavation for the new pipe will be within the critical root zone directly under the main stems of these trees. As such, the trees would become structurally compromised and pose a risk to public safety if they were to remain.
