A brush fire kept Colwood Fire Rescue busy for a couple of hours Sunday.
The initial call that came in at around 3:30 p.m. indicated a fire in the area of Ocean Boulevard and Rosebank Road, said Colwood Assistant Fire Chief Greg Chow. A secondary call put the location across from the Pacific Activity Centre, with heavy smoke in the area between Belmont Road and Ocean Boulevard.
“It’s getting very dry across the province,” Chow noted. “The public needs to be very diligent with regards to fire safety, especially with smoking materials.”

Two engines, a tanker, two support vehicles and 22 firefighters responded to the blaze, which affected an area of about 200 feet by 200 feet, Chow said. Firefighters knocked down the fire within 1o to 15 minutes, and remained on scene for about two hours completing overhaul and mop-up operations. No buildings or structures were damaged, and the cause is still under investigation.
