A woman was arrested by the West Shore RCMP early Tuesday (April 25) morning after officers responded to a break-in at a Langford garden centre.

Police said responded to the break-in call around 4:30 a.m. and were advised by a security guard a woman was throwing plants around inside the Canadian Tire garden centre.

According to a news release, arriving officers found the woman loading plants onto the back of a bicycle, and when she was told she was under arrest, police say she fled the scene on foot.

A suspect was caught after a short foot chase through the parking lot, and police later learned she had nine outstanding unendorsed warrants for her arrest, mainly related to an investigation in North Cowichan.

The warrants were for four counts of mischief, 12 counts of breaching court ordered conditions, four counts of assaulting a police officer, and seven counts of possession of stolen property. Police say she was also in breach of an additional condition, which required her to to be living at a home in Courtney, abide by a curfew, and not possess tools which could be used to break and enter property.

She was held in custody for a court appearance scheduled for Tuesday, and police are recommending new charges of break and enter, theft and breach of court ordered conditions.
