A chaotic sequence of events unfolded Friday morning on East Sooke Road, resulting in the arrest of two individuals following a crash, an assault, and the discovery of an explosive device.

Sooke RCMP responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash at the junction of East Sooke Road and Yates Road in Beecher Bay. Upon arrival, officers found an injured woman who is believed to have been the occupant of the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the driver had fled the scene.

Initial evidence gathered at the crash site prompted the arrest of the injured woman, leading to the launch of a criminal investigation.

After police learned that a security guard was attacked nearby and their truck had been stolen, they patrolled the area and discovered the stolen vehicle, which had crashed down an embankment.

The driver of the initial vehicle that crashed was located and taken into custody on several charges, including theft of a vehicle and assault with a weapon.

Meanwhile, as police were dealing with the injured woman at the scene of the first crash, they received information that an explosive device associated with the woman was present.

Sooke RCMP then contacted the RCMP explosive disposal unit for their assistance with the safe removal of the device.

The suspects’ vehicle and the stolen truck were seized and towed for forensic analysis.

The adult male and adult female are currently in custody as the investigation continues.

East Sooke Road was closed for several hours during the morning.
