The new roundabout at Latoria and Veterans Memorial Parkway opened in all directions of traffic on Friday (Dec 15), according to the City of Colwood.

The project started in the summer of 2022 and was envisioned by Colwood to help improve the flow of traffic as the city grows, a city spokesperson said.

BC Hydro needs to complete its project associated with the roundabout and do something about the hydro pole in the middle of one of the lanes.

In a press release, Colwood said BC Hydro is solely responsible for the projects in the area and that the city has had no direct control over some aspects of extensive infrastructure projects.

BC Hydro will put together a schedule for undergrounding the hydro lines, which, according to the City of Colwood, will improve the look and feel of the neighbourhood.

The City of Colwood thanked the local businesses of Red Barn, IDA Pharmacy and Olympic View, which the lengthy construction had impacted.

Colwood is working on other transportation improvements, including a cycling and pedestrian overpass over Sooke Road and a multi-use pathway along the Colwood waterfront.
