The historic Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Langford will be demolished in the coming weeks, signaling the end of an era.

The final mass was celebrated on Sept. 17, marking the end of an important chapter in Langford’s history.

Right up until its closure, Our Lady of the Rosary Church was the oldest church in Langford. Documents from the past show the inaugural service took place in December 1955 — just one year prior to the founding of Gordon United Church, which currently holds the distinction of being the oldest house of worship in the city.

The church has long been a beloved sight for many locals and tourists. For Langford, its looming demolition signifies the end of an era. Their new location, situated on Irwin Road, won’t be ready to accommodate them in time.

In the interim, members of this group will find solace and a temporary home at the Chapel of Our Lady Star of the Sea, a church nestled within the federal Department of Defence property in Colwood.

A recently completed church building is set to redefine worship in the local community. With a generous layout, it provides ample space for congregants and features a versatile community hall for various gatherings.

The recently finished church building is going to change the way people in the neighborhood worship, says church organizers. Its spacious design offers enough room for attendees and includes a multipurpose community hall that may be used for a variety of events.

The building will also have a daycare centre with a capacity for 30 kids and designated office space.
