Police were able to nab a suspected thief with the help of the app Find My iPhone.

The theft occurred back in mid-November when a visitor to Elements Casino left their phone behind at one of the slot machines and returned to find it missing.

Police were called to 1708 Island Hwy. on the West Shore to investigate and obtained video surveillance showing a suspect stealing the phone from the casino.

Officers were able to identify the suspect from the video and then worked with the victim to use the Find My iPhone app to locate the phone.

On Dec. 10, West Shore RCMP officers with assistance from Victoria Police Department, executed a search warrant for the stolen property which was located inside a Victoria home.

The iPhone was recovered and West Shore RCMP arrested a 19-year-old man for theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000. He has been released with a court date in the new year.
