Colwood Fire Rescue is looking for more paid on-call firefighters to join its roster of about 40 dedicated and experienced crew.

Paid on-call firefighters receive compensation when they attend a scheduled 12-hour night shift, an emergency call out, or in-person training outside of regular night shift training. They are provided opportunities for casual firefighter employment, and may apply for internal career firefighter positions that may come up.

Potential candidates who receive a conditional offer will be invited to complete a four-week orientation training and three night shift ride-alongs. Once accepted, firefighters take part in regular training and can access opportunities for professional development.

All Colwood fire members are certified fire suppression and rescue professionals trained under the British Columbia firefighters program. The department also works with the Langford and View Royal fire departments through mutual aid and auto aid agreements.

Applicants don’t need to be Colwood residents, however preference may be given to those who live within a reasonable distance. They must be 19 or older.
