A six-storey 84-rental home development broke ground in Langford on Feb. 27.

Aura, the new expansion, will be close to shops and universities and help grow the City of Langford, said acting Mayor Mary Wagner.

“Our world’s getting smaller. And, so we can think of things like walkability. And if you bike well, it’s only 10 minutes to the heart of Langford from here.”

Aura will sit on a 74,000-square-foot site and accommodate both one- and two-bedroom houses ranging in size from 560 to 1,000 square feet, said Joshua Gaglardi, president of Orion Construction.

“We’re excited to play a role in providing essential rental housing for families, students and athletes in the community,” said Gaglardi.

The building will include amenities such as storage units and coworking facilities on the ground floor.

“Langford is one of Canada’s fastest growing communities, and the new development will be close to amenities,” said Cavin Green, vice president of operations at Cedar Coast.

There are prime mountain bike trails, great hikes, golf courses, tennis courts, professional soccer and national rugby to watch, a climbing gym and all the shops, restaurants and services.

The development of Aura falls in line with the council’s vision of building more environmentally sustainable buildings, said Wagner.

“It’s great to see developments that go that extra step and go above what’s required. There’s going to be something that’s better for the community in the future.”

The project is scheduled for completion by summer 2026.
