The Apartment Gallery, located at 1016-A Fort St, officially opens this weekend

Art collectors and admirers are setting their sights on a new gallery that features emerging local artists as well as an internationally renowned Chinese photographer.

The Apartment Gallery, located at 1016-A Fort St, officially opens this weekend with the first Canadian exhibit of contemporary photographer Lu Jun, who is recognized across the globe for his haunting photographs using ink and water.

“This is (Jun’s) big debut in Canada,” said director Ellen Manning, who has managed and curated exhibits in Shanghai and Thailand, and is the brainchild behind the Victoria Emerging Art Awards.

“The Apartment Gallery collection will feature more established local artists as well as international artists who I worked with during my sojourn in China and Thailand,” she said.

The gallery’s grand opening takes place Friday, Sept. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m.
