Leo eagerly awaits rescue (Swikar Oli/News staff)

WATCH:Cat stuck in tree for several days awaits rescue

Indoor cat Leo has been lost for over four days

Terry Rowsell said he’d been hearing a meow outside his home on Donovan and Freethy in Colwood since Friday but couldn’t determine from where the sound was coming.

Echoing made the sound harder to pinpoint, but he was able to determine that it was coming from high up a tree. On Friday evening, Rowsell said he found a cat near the top of the tree in his backyard, “about 80 feet high.”

Rowsell called the town’s bylaw offices, who told him there was nothing they could do but suggested calling Reuniting Owner’s with Animals Missing Ltd. (ROAM). They were able to identify Leo and helped put Rowsell in touch with the owner on Saturday. Rowsell learned one year old indoor cat Leo’s been rescued from a tree once before.

Leo has descended several branches lower over the past two days, Rowsell said. The owner told Rowsell she’d been in touch with Tip Top Tree Service and Ross Wilkinson, who provides climbing service for cat rescues out of Victoria.

Leo’s owner was coming to get Leo from her home in Colwood this morning. In the mean time, Rowsell and his wife Marie- Andrée have been trying to goad Leo down with an open can of tuna.
