Restoration efforts in Havenwood Park last Saturday saw a total of 33 people show up to lend a hand.

Twenty-four of those sets of hands came from the Greater Victoria Green Team’s network of volunteers.

“It was amazing, it was a great collaboration,” said Amanda Evans, Green Team program manager. “I couldn’t have asked for a better day… Everyone just had a great time.”

With that many workers, Evans said they managed to accomplish all of the goals set for the work party in just four hours.

“It’s very addictive, this kind of work,” she added.

The Green Team’s main objective is to help increase the capabilities of other environmental groups in the region.

Through social media and other streams of communication, Evans said they have been able to really expand their volunteer network over the past two years and connect with volunteers that have never considered doing this type of work.

Working with groups from Sooke to Saanich, she noted they have also been able to connect volunteers with sites they hadn’t considered accessible before.

Last Saturday’s event at Havenwood park was a collaboration between the Greater Victoria Green Team, Habitat Acquisition Trust (HAT), Friends of Havenwood Park and the City of Colwood.
