Pair of community events on West Shore

A discussion on electoral reform and a relationship workshop are running over the next week.

Town hall meeting touts electoral reform

West Shore residents have a chance this weekend to share their thoughts on changes they’d like to see made to the Canadian voting system.

A House of Commons Special Committee is studying what changes to make to the Canadian voting system. As part of that process, local members of parliament are asking the people they represent to take part in a town hall discussion this Saturday (Sept. 24).

NDP MPs Alistair MacGregor (Cowichan-Malahat-Langford) and Randall Garrison (Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke) plan to take their findings back to Ottawa. The town hall meeting runs from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Community Commons at Belmont secondary, 3041 Langford Lake Rd.

Relationship rescue drop-in at JDF

Does your relationship need a little pick me up? Even if it doesn’t, relationships can be a lot of tough work. West Shore Parks and Recreation, along with Kimberley Hopwood, are trying to help couples make that work a little easier.

Next Monday, Sept. 26, this relationship rescue drop-in will offer couples proven tips for handling the top five relationship issues: communication, money, housework, kids and intimacy. Personal disclosure is not required to participate.

This session runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Spinnaker Room at the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre and the fee is $5.

For more information on upcoming workshops, visit khcounselling.com or call Hopwood directly at 250-514-3864.
