Nature is up for discussion at Royal Roads

Environmental expert Milton McClaren will deliver talk at the Colwood university

Is there difference between nature and natural, other than an extra letter?

Dr. Milton McClaren will discuss the implications of that and how it affects environmental education at a free lecture in the Robert Bateman series at Royal Roads University on Aug. 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Hatley Castle drawing room.

McClaren is an associate faculty member in the School of Environmental Study at RRU and a professor emeritus in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University.

McLaren’s topic, titled “What is “natural?” Exploring the idea of nature and its implications for environmental education, will re-examine the concept that natural and nature are assumed to share the same meanings. That will be considered in the context of programs intended to develop environmental literacy and awareness as well.
