Amidst scores of young children, a group of smiling adults dressed in bright red T-shirts join the them on the Support The Cause walk starting at the View Royal school. The 11th annual fundraising journey starts anew here, as they stride past the playground and the nature scape that will soon benefit from their $3,100 gift.
“It is a great way to support the community,” said Trena White of the Western Communities Foundation. “I love to volunteer, so this is an easy, good way to get everyone involved in the community – not just our office, but other people too.”
The foundation, a non-profit arm of the Western Financial Group insurance company, raises funds for local initiatives with a number of different fundraising efforts, including garage sales, bake sales, beach clean ups, car washes and more.
Christina Jones, whose seven-year-old daughter Evalyn attends the school, said she is excited to see the nature scape take shape.
“It is very important (to understand) we are not alone … It takes more than just an individual to make a child’s education and the community sound,” Jones said. “It’s important to work together.”
