Applications are now open for the Capital Regional District’s Constable Sarah Beckett Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship, offered by the CRD’s Traffic Safety Commission, is valued at $2,000 and is for post-secondary students living in the region and pursuing a career in law enforcement.

“This is a great opportunity for anyone developing a career in law enforcement. Through this scholarship, we have supported students of all ages, from those just starting to adult learners transitioning their careers,” said Dean Murdock, chair of the commission in a release. “This is the seventh year we can honour Const. Beckett’s memory by contributing to education for those who are committed to caring for community safety, and it is inspiring to see her legacy in action.”

Applications will be judged based on academic achievement, financial need, and community service. They will be accepted until July 7.

Information on, and applications for, the scholarship are available online at crdtrafficsafety.ca.

Beckett lost her life in a tragic automobile crash in 2016. Subsequently, the commission created the scholarship to elevate awareness of traffic safety and community policing. The CRD Traffic Safety Commission is responsible for traffic safety education programs and making road safety recommendations to the CRD board.
