University of Victoria golfers turned in a dominant performance at the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Men’s Golf Championship April 29 and 30 at Arkansas’ Paragould Country Club.
The Vikes took a 25-stroke lead into the clubhouse after Monday’s 36 holes, carding a five-over-par 285 team score. CAC Golfer of the Year Owen Croft shot a one-over-par 71 Tuesday to pace the Vikes to a 41-stroke victory over second-place Talladega College (Alabama) and claim the individual title.
Croft’s teammate Aiden Craig-Steele took second in the individual competition, with the Vikes Zach Ryujin finishing tied for fourth and joining Croft and Craig-Steele on the CAC All-Conference Team. Making his Vikes debut, Shunkichi Yamamoto finished ninth, with UVic’s Daniel Kirby 11th.
CAC Coach of the Year Justin Clews will now take his Vikes squad to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Championships May 21 to 24 at Georgia’s Dalton Golf and Country Club. UVic’s women’s team will be at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. May 14-17 for the NAIA women’s championship.
