An investigation is underway into the cause of a structure fire in the 2200-block of Prospector Way on Wednesday.

Langford Fire Chief Chris Aubrey, who was first on the scene, said “the homeowner was trying to put out the fire with a garden hose from the back deck.”

The man, who did not appear to be injured, was initially assisted by B.C. Ambulance Services personnel before being taken to hospital for possible smoke inhalation.

The fire, which started in a rear bedroom, was knocked down quickly by fire crews before it could spread to the attic or elsewhere in the home, Aubrey said. He thanked BC Hydro, B.C. Ambulance and West Shore RCMP for their assistance.

The cause of the fire is not known and an investigation is underway. Aubrey expects that will be completed Thursday.

Langford Fire Rescue responded to blaze at approximately 1:30 p.m. with seven firefighters, two engines and the chief’s vehicle.
