The Oak Bay Police responded to 60 calls for service from Feb. 19 to 25, including a break-and-enter, an outstanding warrant and a car crash that caused $10,000 in damage.
The break-and-enter reportedly took place on Feb. 22 at about 11:48 a.m. in the 200 block of King George Terrace.
Police were told that sometime over the last week someone broke into a residence and stole items of up to $3,000.
These items included electronics, jewellery, and money. The Saanich Police Department Forensic Identification Section was called to the scene and the matter is still under investigation.
Later on Feb. 22 at about 10:42 p.m. Oak Bay Police were on patrol on Cadboro Bay Rd near Hamiota Street when officers saw two people on electric scooters, with no lights on and the operators were not wearing helmets. The police conducted a traffic stop and identified one of the riders as a 34-year-old man, who had a warrant for his arrest for theft and failing to attend court on the Westshore.
The man was arrested and transported to the Westshore RCMP cells.
Two days earlier on Feb. 20, at about 11:15 a.m. police were called to a report of mischief in progress. A witness claimed to see a man writing with black marker on numerous stop signs in the area of Beach Dr and Windsor Rd.
Officers attended and arrested the 62-year-old man. Police noted the man was attaching stickers to the stop sign and writing in black marker, both of which were political protests. The man was released from custody and issued four violation tickets for defacing a traffic control device with a fine of $109, one for each stop sign. Oak Bay Public Works later attended and removed the stickers and marker.
Then on Feb. 19 at about 8:19 a.m. Oak Bay Police responded to a collision in the 3100 block of Beach Drive.
A 19-year-old woman who was driving southbound on Beach Dr. said she was distracted by an item falling in her car. This caused the driver to lose focus and she hit a parked vehicle. There was substantial damage to both vehicles of more than $10,000, and both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. There were no injuries as a result of the collision. The 19-year-old was issued a ticket for driving without due care and attention with a fine of $368.00.
