Pizza Hut stepped up to the plate in fine fashion with a $87,167 donation to the 2017 JDRF Telus Walk to Cure.

Customers, managers and team members from PH Restaurants LP all played a role in raising the money through fundraising initiatives and the purchase of paper sneakers. The money raised goes toward preventing, treating and finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes.

More than 300,000 Canadians are dealing with Type 1 diabetes, with the estimated cost to health care expected to reach $16 billion by 2020.

The Langford Pizza Hut was one of 48 throughout the province involved in the JDRF Telus Walk to Cure. JDRF funds research worldwide in search of a cure. PH Restaurants LP has raised $285,000 during the last 10 years in support of the Telus Walk.

Mike Cyr, president of PH Restaurants LP, said in a release that he’s pleased to note this year’s total marked a 47 per cent increase from the year before, earning a 2017 STEPPIN’ UP Corporate Achievement Award. “Pizza Hut strongly believes in getting involved locally, which is why it chose an organization like JDRF,” Cyr said.

Shelina Dilgir, manager of fundraising and development for Telus Walk, said they are incredibly touched and inspired by the ongoing commitment and passion the leadership of PH Restaurants embodies, and how that has translated to their employees across the province.
