On Thursday night, the Westshore Wolves simply weren't ready to go home.

Facing elimination in their best-of-seven series with the first-place Victoria Cougars, the Wolves had their collective backs against the wall when the third period began, but a power play goal from Jordan Guiney and an overtime tally from Parker Ellis allowed Westshore to escape with a 5-4 win and extend the series to a sixth game.

The Cougars now lead the opening round series of the VIJHL playoffs by a 3-2 margin.

Victoria's Akila Sato-Gaudreau opened the scoring 3:39 into the first but the Wolves responded swiftly, getting a pair of goals from Eamon Duffy with an Ellis tally sandwiched in between, to give themselves a 3-1 lead.

Late in the second, the Cougars went on a run of their own, notching three goals in 122 seconds to give them the advantage heading into the third.

That flurry could have sent the Cougars packing for good, but Guiney responded 4:34 into the final frame and Ellis played hero with 37 seconds left in the first overtime period.

Game six is set for Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Juan de Fuca Arena.

Game seven, if necessary, would take place on Sunday afternoon at Archie Browning Arena in Esquimalt.
