Pacific FC has netted its first major signing — Vancouver native Marcus Haber.

“To be part of a brand new franchise in a brand new league, it’s exciting and I think it’s only going to grow,” said Haber. “It’s a longer term contract, so I’m going to be here at least two seasons with Pacific. This isn’t just a short contract for me. This is somewhere where I want to cement myself and potentially finish my career here.”

Haber is 29, though he will be celebrating his 30th birthday over the weekend. Haber is returning from Europe, where he spend the bulk of his professional career. He departed Scottish Championship side Falkirk FC at the end of 2018, just before the international transfer window opened. He had further experience playing in the Scottish Premiership, and was capped four times in the FA Cup.

“He brings a lot of experience,” said Head Coach Michael Silberbauer. “I told him he could lead by example, and we expect him to that because the youngsters can learn from him.”

Like Pacific FC’s other signing, Kadin Chung, Haber has experience playing with the Vancouver Whitecaps as well. He played with the team prior to their jump to Major League Soccer over two seasons in the United Soccer League, netting 9 goals in 41 caps. With only two signings so far, Silberbauer has a way to go before PFC’s spring training is scheduled to start in March. The final schedule should be announced shortly. In the meantime, fans are beginning to get excited for the inaugural season.

“We have a lot of fans that have been watching his career for many years,” said Jason Armond, President of the Lake Side Buoys supporters group. “Were all very excited to have him on the island.”
