The Victoria Grizzlies are hoping to bounce back after a disappointing 5-4 overtime loss to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs in game 2 of BCHL playoff action this weekend.

Sunday afternoon’s game, which took place at The Q Centre, was mostly a game of back and forth. Victoria’s Dayne Finnson opened the scoring with a shot from Jamie Rome and Drayson Pears to get one by Bulldogs netminder John Hawthorne just past the minute mark the first. But six minutes later, Bulldogs’ Michael Sacco answered right back, netting one from Julian Benner.

Grizzlies’ Shawn O’Malley scored the team’s second of the night, followed by a goal by Bulldogs’ Mitchell Oliver to bring the scoring to two a piece at the end of the first.

Heading into the third, Rome capitalized on the power play after Bulldogs’ Spencer Hora was sent to the box for charging.

The teams exchanged leads until Bulldogs’ Michael Sacco tied it up at 18:37 in the final stanza, sending the game to overtime. It was Oliver from Benner who found the back of the net 3:56 into overtime.

Grizzlies goalie Zachary Rose stopped 37 or 42 shots on the night.

The Bulldogs lead 2-0 in the best of 7 series. They also won game one Friday night with a score of 5-4 in overtime.

Game 3 goes Tuesday, March 6 and game 4 goes the following night, both at the Weyerhaeuser Arena. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
