The Victoria Grizzlies missed out on a chance to gain ground in the standings after Tuesday night’s 7-3 loss to the Powell River Kings.
The loss at The Q Centre leaves the Grizzlies in third place, trailing first-place Powell River by four points, although Victoria has two games in hand. After 28 games, Victoria sports a record of 14 wins, 10 losses, three overtime losses and one tie. That leaves them one point behind the second-place Nanaimo Clippers, who have one more win, one less loss and one more tie after 28 games. The Grizzlies earned a hard-fought 2-2 double overtime tie against the Clippers on Nov. 24, and followed that up two nights later with a convincing 8-5 victory over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
Victoria now heads out on what can best be described as a gruelling grind of a road trip, with four games starting Friday (Dec.1) in Prince George. Saturday night finds them in Vernon, followed by a Sunday tilt in Coquitlam. The trip ends with a Dec. 6 game against the Cowichan Valley Capitals. The Grizzlies return home to host Nanaimo next Saturday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. at The Q Centre, followed by a Sunday afternoon game at 1 p.m. against Powell River.
That leaves just three more games in the schedule before the Christmas break from Dec. 16 to Jan. 1. Victoria will host Cowichan Valley on Jan. 2 to kick of the new year. For tickets and more information, check out victoriagrizzlies.com.
