Fans are getting excited about the upcoming 2018 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships, due to start on Boxing Day (Dec. 26) in Buffalo, N.Y.

But news about the 2019 tournament is also on people’s minds, as Vancouver and Victoria get set to host the best young amateur players in the world. Full-event ticket packages for the two cities went on sale this morning, including for the 14 games to be held at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

While the exact schedule won’t be released until January, two Team Canada exhibition games are on the slate for Victoria, as well as 10 preliminary round games and two quarter-final games.

Canada will play its preliminary round games in Vancouver.

Tournament director Riley Wiwchar said Thursday that presale totals exceeded organizers’ expectations, but plenty of good seats remain available.

“The launch of ticket sales is a significant milestone, not for just us as event organizers, but for the fans from across the country and around the world who begin to plan their travel to beautiful British Columbia,” he said in a release.

A study on the economic impact of the 2015 tournament in Toronto and Montreal estimated the financial spinoff for the host communities to be more than $80 million.

Full event ticket packages range from $399 to $699 and are available for purchase online at hockeycanada.ca/tickets or by calling 250-220-7777.
