Sooke School District athletes break track records in Colwood

Multiple records fell at Friday’s track meet at Royal Bay

The two-year old track at Royal Bay Secondary appears to be a quick one.

For the second straight year, several records fell at the Sooke School District’s annual track meet, which took place on June 2 in front of a large crowd of parents.

Among the record-setters were Jeremy Atwood of Colwood Elementary in the Grade 3 boys’ 400 metre event, as well as Wishart Elementary’s Genevieve Bacon, who shattered the Grade 4 girls’ 100 metre mark with a blistering time of 15.03.

Bacon and teammates Rachel Reid, Helena Baldwin and Ainsley Sitar teamed up to top the Grade 4 girls 4×100 metre relay mark in the heats, posting a time of 1:04.44 before taking the finals in 1:05 flat.
