Some bright spots for Rebels, despite record

Westshore takes on 0-2 Valley Huskers this weekend in Chilliwack

Westshore Rebels hope to build on the positives this weekend in Chilliwack, having lost their first two B.C. Football Conference games by lopsided scores.

The Rebels, coming off a 39-9 loss last Saturday to the Vancouver Island Raiders in the home opener at Westhills Stadium, take on the Valley Huskers in an afternoon contest tomorrow (Aug. 9).

The Raiders took the boisterous Langford crowd out of the game Saturday, amassing a 26-0 lead after the first quarter and holding the Rebels off the board until the fourth quarter.

The combination of quarterback Hunter Lake and receiver Nathan Leader was a bright spot for the locals on the night, however, as Leader caught six Lake passes for 211 yards.

Lake threw for 437 yards in all (18 for 34) and ran in his team's lone touchdown from close in. He also threw two interceptions.

Among other Rebels, Jordan Rodinsky picked up 94 yards on three catches while Griffin Dear caught three balls for 67 yards. Johnny Quan led Rebels rushers with 36 yards on eight carries.

Rebels linebacker Chris Pastro recorded 2-1/2 sacks and had five tackles overall to lead the defence.

Six different players scored touchdowns for the Raiders, who had three different quarterbacks line up during the game. Liam O'Brien was good on 13 of 22 pass attempts and threw three TD passes for the winners.

Tomorrow's game pits the league's two 0-2 teams, with the Huskers coming off a 49-33 loss to Kamloops. The Chilliwack squad has allowed 90 points in its two games, while the Rebels have given up 78.
