Phil Mack’s return with the Seattle Seawolves went swimmingly as the defending Major Rugby League champions ran off a 48-7 win over the Vancouver Island Crimson Tide representative side at Westhills Stadium on Saturday.

Heavy rains fell during the exhibition match that saw the Crimson Tide continue their tradition, one which dates back more than 100 years. Longtime Westshore Rugby veteran John Lyall oversaw the club’s latest construction, coached by Sean White (JBAA), Aaron Frisby (Westshore RFC) and Nanyak Dala (Castaway Wanderers).

Mack, a career Canadian 15s and sevens international (Oak Bay High/James Bay AA), continued his role as starting scrum half and acting coach for the Seawolves, adding one of his team’s tries himself.

Seawolves winger Peter Tiberio scored twice.

The stands held hundreds of fans while a live stream of the event peaked over 5,000 viewers from B.C., Washington State, California, Ontario and Alberta.
