Wes Myron was leading the team in scoring before he left for a college tour in October and made team Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge

Myron looks to carry hot hand with Grizzlies

How can Wes Myron catch Wade Murphy in points if he keeps setting up?

Could be a coincidence, but it sure looks like the Victoria Grizzlies were missing Wes Myron.

The Grizzlies are in action for a home-and-home series against the Cowichan Capitals in Victoria Friday and Duncan Saturday.

Puck drop is 7:15 at Bear Mountain Arena Friday night.

The game is part of the league’s 50th anniversary celebration with all 16 teams paired into a home-and-home series.

Two weekends ago Myron was winning gold with Team Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge when the Grizz’ (13-12) fell to the Surrey Eagles (12-5) and Alberni Bulldogs (9-10-1).

When he returned to the Grizz’ last weekend, the team won both games, and Myron had a little something to do with that. His six-point splurge restored his points per game average to 1.9 (29 points in 15 games), in line with league scoring leader and teammate Wade Murphy (46 points in 24 games).

Myron potted a hat trick in a 6-3 win over Cowichan at home on Nov. 18, then had a goal and assist as the Grizz’ beat the Coastal conference leading Cowichan Capitals 6-5 in overtime on Nov. 19.

Murphy also had a six point weekend, retaining his league scoring lead. Former Capitals player and Duncan product Chase Kaiser scored the winner for the Grizzlies on a penalty shot during three-on-three play in the second overtime period.
