The Langford Lightning under-12 girls almost managed to get the better of a tough host team at the Finn Kennedy Memorial fastpitch tournament in Sooke May 23-24.
The Lightning, having rolled through their opponents in three round robin games and a pair of playoff elimination matches, finished tied with Sooke after regulation play. In the second extra inning, playing under the international rule – teams start with a runner on second base – Sooke outscored Langford 5-3 for the victory.
The Lightning's next tournament play is the June 12-14 weekend at Centennial Park in Langford.
