Lacrosse action in Colwood this weekend

Auto racing returns to the Western Speedway oval this week with the Allterra Construction and Environmental Night at the Races, Saturday, May 6. Enjoy the Super Sprints, Late Model Drivers Challenge Twin 50s, Stock Cars, and Dwarf Cars.

Practice starts at 3:30 p.m. with the grandstands opening at 4:30 p.m. and qualifying 5:30 p.m. Fan Fest gets underway at 6 p.m., time permitting, with racing at 6:30 p.m.

Coming up is the Lordco Auto Parts Demolition Night at Western Speedway Saturday, May 13, featuring Lordco Demo Series, Bombers, Loan Rangers Financial Claimers, and Richlock Rentals Drifters.

While the senior Shamrocks’ home opener is still several weeks away, the Junior ‘Rocks welcome the Burnaby Lakers to The Q Centre Saturday, May 6 for a 7:30 p.m. tilt. Earlier in the afternoon, the Intermediate Shamrocks host Okanagan at The Q, with play starting at 4:30 p.m.

In Juan de Fuca lacrosse action, the weekend’s annual Travis Bateman Memorial Tournament brings play to The Q Centre and Juan de Fuca Rec Centre floors Friday through Sunday.

And in Midget A play, the local squad hosts Nanaimo this Saturday, May 6, with play opening at 5:30 p.m. at Juan de Fuca arena. The Whalers head to Peninsula for a 5:30 p.m. game Sunday at Panorama before hosting Saanich for a mid-week game, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10 at Juan de Fuca.

In high school rugby, senior girls’ play has Belmont taking on Reynolds and Spectrum at Claremont. Friday, May 5, before heading to Stelly’s next Friday, May 12, where the West Shore team will face the hosts and Mt. Doug.

In the high school cycling series, the Long Course Cross Country Mountain Bike event brings course to Hartland May 9.

Following this week’s 2017 Police Tournament at Olympic View Golf Course, high school golfers return to the links at View Royal’s Highland Pacific Tuesday, May 9 for the Lower Island Tournament. Tee off is at 11 a.m.

In West Shore cricket play, the Metchosin team welcomes the Colts to the pitch at the Metchosin Municipal Grounds Sunday, May 7, with action starting at noon.

In regional high-performance baseball, the Victoria Premier Mariners return home Saturday, May 6 to host the North Shore Twins in a doubleheader at Layritz Field, with first pitches at 1 and 3:30 p.m. Sunday brings the Coquitlam Reds, also to Layritz, with games played at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The Victoria Premier Eagles host the same Mainland teams on opposite days, with games both Saturday and Sunday at 12:05 and 2:35 p.m. at Lambrick Park.
