Junior ’Rocks out to continue win streak

Lacrosse squad is on the road in Delta this weekend

The Victoria Shamrocks juniors look to make it three straight B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League wins when they hit the road tomorrow to play the Islanders in Delta.

The Shamrocks (8-3-0) sit tied for second with Coquitlam (8-1) in the B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League standings, but the Adanacs are scheduled to play tonight (June 3) and Friday.

Last Sunday’s road game saw Victoria outscore the Lakers 7-1 in the third period in Burnaby en route to a 16-9 win. Max Fredrickson added to his team-leading point total with three goals, giving him 16 for the season and 36 points. McLean Chiquen added two goals and five assists.

Matt Hamilton, Ryan Lewis (with his team-leading 18th and 19th goals), Cole Pickup, Jake Cullen and Dallas Wade each scored twice in the win.

Saturday saw the locals overcome an early deficit to beat the New Westminster Salmonbellies 12-9 at The Q Centre. The Shamrocks fell behind 3-0 after just three minutes, but rode a solid performance from goalie Charles Claxton the rest of the way to beat the ’Bellies.

Pickup led the attack with a goal and four assists, while Cullen and Chiquen had a pair of goals each. Claxton made 48 saves.

Clover leaves … Pickup was named the BCJALL’s player of the week after scoring 15 points in three games. Pickup, who also plays hockey for the Victoria Grizzlies, also played a senior A game with the Shamrocks last week.
