Juan de Fuca Div. 3A soccer men look to clinch top spot

VISL title on line, along with division promotion, provincials berth

First place in the Vancouver Island Soccer League’s third division is on the line Friday night (March 10), as is a jump up to Div. 2 and a berth in the provincial B Cup for the Juan de Fuca men.

Juan de Fuca (11-1-3), sitting in first with 36 points, heads to Hampton Park in Saanich for their regular season-ending showdown under the lights against the second place Gorge-Us Guys (11-3-1, 34 points).

Kickoff time is at 7 p.m. on the turf, rain or shine.

The division winner automatically qualifies as one of four Island teams in the provincial tournament.

The others are the Div. 3B champ and the winners of the George Pearkes and Div. 4 challenge cup titles (runners-up qualify if the winner is a division champion).

The high-scoring Gorge-Us Guys (48 goals for) are led by Brendan Andrews (17G) and John Bakowski (16G), while Juan de Fuca’s top attacker is Brent Cameron (15G).
