The Intermediate Shamrocks squared off against their Island rivals – the Nanaimo Timbermen – in their first match-up of the season with the ‘Rocks coming out ahead, 18-12.

The local squad fell behind early in play at The Q Centre Tuesday night, with Nanaimo taking a 6-0 lead by the midway mark of the first period. But Victoria battled back to trail 6-3 by the end of the period. They carried on with that momentum, outscoring the visitors 8-2 and 7-4 in the final 40 minutes of play.

Jackson Boyd and Thomas Vaesen led the Shamrocks in scoring with five goals apiece and four and three assists respectively. Braydon Brown added another four goals to the board with Josh Pickford tallying a pair and two assists.

The Intermediate ‘Rocks hit the floor again at home this Saturday (June 3) when they face off against the Burnaby Lakers at 1:30 p.m. at The Q Centre.

The win puts the Shamrocks at the top of the standings with 14 points.
