Ryder Hesjedal is sitting pretty, but not in pink.

The world-class Victoria cyclist finished Stage 18 of the Giro d-Italia on Thursday in the 87th spot among the peloton.

No riders gained anytime, as the few breakaways on the day were caught, and the final sprint of the downhill stretch ending the 149-kilometre leg came down to winner Andrea Guardini surprising the second-place finisher Mark Cavendish.

Guardini edged Cavendish to the front of the peloton in the final 200 metres, allowing overall leader Joachim Rodriguez and second-place Hesjedal to maintain their places atop the general classification.

The Giro enters two demanding mountain climbs on Friday and Saturday, totaling over 400 km, before ending on Sunday with a 30 km time trial.
