The Edward Milne Community School senior boys basketball team’s season came to an end Thursday, with a loss against Stelly’s Secondary School.

The Wolverines were humbled 71-51.

Sooke got off to a slow start and was stuck playing catch-up throughout the game.

“We kind of picked it up in the second half, but they were just unable to close the gap unfortunately,” said coach Alex Wright. “It was just too much for us to come back from.”

Wright lauded the play of Grade 12 forward Hunter Carda, who scored 12 points in the game, saying he improved greatly over the last two seasons.

“Overall we had a really great core group of guys. And even though it was a tough season, I think the hard work the guys put in for basketball transferred through to real life because they are graduating,” said Wright.

“They got better as players and as people, proving they can stick through adversity and still do really well, and that winning isn’t everything.”

Next season, Wright is unsure if he will be coaching the EMCS junior or senior boys, but hopes to continue to develop the players, and improve on his coaching strategies.
