The Dunsmuir middle school Grade 8 girls basketball won the city championship in December. Many of the players were on the Grade 6-7 championship team from 2014.

As schools across the region wrapped up for the winter break, the girls basketball teams of Dunsmuir middle school were wrapping up perfect seasons.

The Dragons junior team coached by Graham Treloar, comprised of Grade 7s and a few Grade 6 players, went undefeated this year in regular season play.  They continued that streak through the playoffs and easily clinched the Grade 7 City Championship with a 40-11 win over Spencer middle school. Dunsmuir won the same grade 7 title last year, so this was an impressive achievement by this new crop of middle school players.

Last year’s title winners are now in grade 8 and most played again for Dunsmuir this fall.  Coached by Meghan Caldwell, the Dragons senior team was just as impressive, finishing 9-0 on their way to winning the Grade 8 city championship on home court with a 32-28 win over Royal Oak middle school.

In the final, Dunsmuir jumped out to an early lead and never trailed. Royal Oak went on a short scoring streak late in the fourth quarter, but in the end the Dragons secured the victory and retained the title.
