Bulldog senior boys go 2-1 at Pitt Meadows hoops event

Coach says team may have been looking too far ahead to semifinal

After opening the Pitt Meadows Air Show basketball tournament with a solid 64-41 win over West Vancouver’s Collingwood, the Belmont senior boys might have gotten a little cocky, said coach Kevin Brown.

The Bulldogs went on to lose a quarter-final game, 80-64 to the host team “that they really shouldn’t have,” he said. “We were just not ready to go and I feel the boys were already looking past the game to the next one,” Brown added.

Belmont wound up the tournament with a 71-50 win over Sir Charles Tupper of Vancouver on Saturday.

Isaac Ickovich was a standout for the Bulldogs, averaging more than 15 points, while Nathan Zaragoza was named to the tourney all-star team.

Belmont returns to league play Tuesday at home against Claremont at 6 p.m.
