National men's rugby team players from Chile took advantage of Belmont secondary's offer to practice indoors on Tuesday due to the snowy conditions outside. The Chilieans take on Canada this Saturday in Americas Rugby Championship play at Westhills Stadium at 5 p.m.

Belmont secondary played the role of good neighbours Wednesday, extending an invitation for Chilean men’s rugby team to use the school's gym for practice. The team is preparing for its game against Canada in the America's Rugby Championship, which takes place at Westhills Stadium this Saturday (Feb. 11) at 5 p.m.

The winter conditions gripping the West Shore have made it difficult to practice outdoors, so Belmont principal Ray Miller said the school's physical education department made the gym available for the 30 players to practice between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

"Belmont is proud to help our neighbour, Rugby Canada, in their time of need, and we are honoured to be asked to contribute," Miller said. "Our students and staff will learn a lot from watching athletes of the highest level train in our beautiful gym."
