Rationale still unclear for liquor privatization

The media has failed to fully inform the public on provatizing the distribution branch of the Liquor Control Board, Pat McGuire writes

Re: B.C. liquor laws finally effective (B.C. Views, Aug. 15)

One thing that Tom Fletcher and other media have failed to do is fully inform the public about the financial case for privatizing the warehousing and distribution branch of the Liquor Control Branch.

Minister of Energy and Mines Rich Coleman and the B.C. Liberals have certainly not been called to proper account on this issue.

Forget about the union angle; this ‘monopoly’ provides B.C.’s coffers with a hefty income. Why do the Liberals, our ‘free enterprise’ party, want to sell off this asset? Even B.C.’s craft beer industry folks have questioned this proposal and they are the small business people who help create employment.

Who will benefit from such a sale? Friends and insiders? I look forward to an in-depth article on this issue, soon, in one of Mr. Fletcher’s columns.
